Is the South Beach Diet the best for me?

I'm looking on eating healthier and losing weight while exercising. I know I eat way too many carbs so I've been looking into low-carb diets. I'm lactose-intolerant so any plan that restricts dairy is A-Ok! I don't like the strictness of Atkins or the counting of the Zone. So do you think South Beach would be best? I'm not good at meal plans so it looks like this would the best option for someone on the go?
