Where can I find an Alligator snapping turtle?

One of my summer goals is it see a Alligator Snapping turtle in person without going to a local zoo hahaha I'm from Granite City Illinois I'm about 15 miles or so From St.Louis Missouri I wanna know if it's possible to actually find an Alligator Snapping turtle in a lake or in the Mississippi in my area I don't even know if they exist here.
